Behind the scene look at my first game jam & some updates
This was my first game jam & my first playable game. Learned a lot while also having fun. I've tried to keep the game really simple so that I could actually finish it in time & submit it in the game jam. That's why there are almost no assets except the starter content provided with Unreal Engine. If I see people downloading & enjoying the potential of this game, I'll try to gradually improve the game with custom assets & more levels with different player movement mechanics. I already have a few other mechanics planned out like - one character moves faster, inverted movement, size difference etc.
If not, I'll try to improve the game for my self satisfaction by
- solving the few known bugs
- improving readability of the puzzle mechanics (already working on it)
- better level design for the first level
- adding a more satisfying & coherent level completion event
- adding UI elements to convey various events to player
Here is a screenshot of the readability improvements for the first level. I've added a background plate behind the ambigram for more contrast. Also added cables to provide some clue to the puzzle & reduce fatigue while exploring. There are also some improvements with the ambient occlusion & exposure.
Here's a behind scene look at the 3D ambigram that you need to solve in the first level.
Here is the result in game.
I hope to keep having fun while improving this game. I'll keep updating with devlogs every once in a while.
If you have any suggestions or bug report for the game, please feel free to let me know in the comments.
